KBR is excited to announce that Sydney Metro has awarded the SYSTRA-KBR Joint Venture the Independent Certification Services contract for the Sydney Metro West project. As part of this package, the JV will independently certify a number of work packages, including tunnelling, stations, integrated station development, line wide systems, trains, control systems, maintenance and operations through design, construction and completion.

The SYSTRA-KBR team draws on the individual company experience in delivering design and IC services on Sydney Metro Northwest and Sydney Metro City & Southwest. The JV will perform the IC role through an independent lens while contributing to the solution that will deliver substantial transport, employment and housing benefits for the Sydney community.

The Sydney Metro West project will see a new 24km underground railway built between Greater Parramatta and the Sydney CBD, doubling rail capacity between the two CBDs. The project will connect new communities to rail services and in turn grow housing supply and employment, with about 10,000 direct and 70,000 indirect jobs expected to be created throughout construction.

With new stations set for Westmead, Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock, The Bays, Pyrmont and Hunter Street in the Sydney CBD, the project will revitalize community spaces and enhance Sydney’s liveability and culture, providing better access to employment, health and education centers as well as major sporting and entertainment precincts.

KBR and SYSTRA will blend seamlessly into a team with Sydney Metro and its delivery partners to adopt a culture focused on collaboration, communication and shared goals to certify the solutions that will help deliver this city-shaping project and benefit generations of Australians to come.

KBR’s Director of Strategy and New Business and SYSTRA-KBR JV Executive Committee member, Mark Carling, is looking forward to supporting one of Sydney’s biggest infrastructure projects and building a strong and lasting relationship with Sydney Metro and its delivery partners.

“We are excited to be working closely with our JV partner SYSTRA to bring our collective experience to the Independent Certification services for Sydney Metro West,” Carling said. “This project reinforces our growing client-side work and is a critical element in the development of our tunnel engineering capabilities.”

Helen Williams, SYSTRA’s Executive General Manager Specialty Engineering and SYSTRA-KBR JV Executive Committee member, is delighted by the prospect of contributing to such an important infrastructure project that will enhance connectivity in her home city.

“The opportunity to bring the combined strength and depth of SYSTRA and KBR together is an exciting one,” Williams said. “We look forward to bringing to life our shared values, complementary expertise and demonstrating our commitment to the success of the Sydney Metro West project.”
