We support the country’s security and welfare by designing, project managing and delivering complex and high-tech land, air and sea defence infrastructure facilities across the nation.

It’s an exciting time to be a part of Infrastructure Services (IS) Australia, with growth occurring across the business’s expansive markets to deliver sustainable transport, water and environment, defence infrastructure, buildings and program and portfolio management consultancy solutions.

With a strong reputation for excellence and working seamlessly with customers, IS Australia is expanding its reach into early phase strategic and technical solutions and formal asset solutions business lines to add to its existing consulting services.

This growth is matched by the rapidly expanding team of 800 individuals which continues to rise each month as they diversify their business lines and deepen partnerships with customers and delivery partners. “Supplementing existing business lines with early phase strategic and technical solutions and formal asset solutions enables IS Australia to deliver solutions to its customers through the full project lifecycle,” said Mark Carling, Director, Strategy and New Business.

Award Winning Sustainable Solutions

IS Australia is making significant contributions to KBR’s global commitment to a more sustainable future and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 through the delivery of over $2 billion (AUD) in infrastructure projects certified by Green Star and the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia. “We are driven by our collective goal – to plan, design and deliver smarter, safer and more sustainable infrastructure solutions that protect our planet, enhance communities and keep Australians safe into the future,” said Wayne Nolan, Vice President Infrastructure Services Australia.

That goal is continually demonstrated in the transport market, where KBR was recently awarded a Five Star Green Star As Built rating by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) as part of the North Western Program Alliance with the Level Crossing Removal Program. To date, the alliance has removed eight level crossings and built four new train stations across metropolitan Melbourne, Victoria.

Climbing the Ranks with Digital Capabilities

KBR continues to support the Australian Defence Force’s full capability to design, project manage and deliver complex and high-tech LAND, AIR and SEA Defence infrastructure facilities across the nation. Our commitment to the Commonwealth in ensuring the nation’s security and protecting the safety of all Australians is reflected in our steady climb up the ranks of the Australian Defence Magazine’s Top 40 Defence Contractors from 39th place in 2016 to 15th place in 2020.

Meeting Critical Challenges to Enhance Culture and Community

KBR’s IS Australia Consulting Services business is working full steam to provide early phase strategic and technical water solutions to address the Australian water industry’s most critical challenges and enhance the liveability of communities across the nation. Furthermore, a new team of economists and strategic thinkers have secured numerous packages to develop detailed business cases that will help enhance several regional councils across Australia.

Ray Mahony, Director, Consulting Services, said, “The ongoing success we’re seeing in Consulting Services is driven by our team’s focus on excellence in delivery for the customers we work with. We combine digital solutions and technical innovation to deliver project outcomes that connect communities around Australia.”

Collaboration and Flexibility Key to Project Management Success

IS Australia is the top choice in the industry to deliver water, resources and energy programs utilizing capital efficient strategies. The team supports the growth of Australian minerals supply chains to unlock critical rare earths – as seen in Arafura Resources’ $1 billion (AUD) Nolans Project. Rare minerals are an essential part of today’s lifestyle due to our dependence on technology and pursuit of clean energy solutions.

The team also applies a technology-focused approach to green energy programs in solar and wind while actively exploring opportunities to leverage our leading global capabilities in hydrogen and ammonia energy production.

“The success of our collaborative and flexible approach to project delivery is reflected in our long-term relationships and contracting arrangements with water utility clients – some of whom we have been supporting for over a decade,” Director of PMC Services, Carey Gent said.

This is evident in our continual support of SA Water to deliver improved water and wastewater services for South Australians through the current $1.6 billion (AUD), four-year ‘Our Plan 2020-24’, which is the third consecutive capital works program we have supported. KBR’s project management resources supported planning and delivery of SA Water’s ground-breaking Zero Cost Energy Future initiative, driving efficiencies with smart decisions around its electricity use and procurement. The program involved the management, supply, installation and commissioning of more than 360,000 solar panels across 33 sites and will deliver significant positive environmental outcomes, reducing CO² emissions by more than 89,000 tons a year.

People at the Heart of Business Success

IS Australia’s continued expansion over the past year is testament to our people’s hard work in helping our business reach its full potential and unwavering commitment to help our customers get the best project outcomes.

“Our steady and successful growth over the past five years reflects our shared purpose to – together, deliver infrastructure for a better tomorrow,” said Nolan. “We do this by putting our people at the centre of everything we do.”

As the team in IS Australia continues to grow and evolve, they are on the lookout for the best and brightest to join them. You can find all the available vacancies on our Careers page.
