Delivering better outcomes for our customers through internationally certified digitization of design and construction

KBR Australia has achieved a significant milestone in its digital transformation, having recently become ISO 19650 certified - the international standard for Information Management using Building Information Modelling (BIM).  

As one of only a few engineering consultancy in the country that has achieved the certification, becoming ISO 19650 certified sets KBR apart from the competition as it leads the way in digital transformation.  

The digitization of design and construction brings a vast array of benefits. But it also has its challenges – one of them being the way different teams work together to share and deliver information. The ISO 19650 standard was developed as a way to overcome this challenge, by creating an international standard for managing information over the whole life cycle of a built asset using building information modelling (BIM). 

The ISO 19650 standard allows all parties to work to the same standard of information management, meaning everyone is on the same page when it comes to decision-making and collaboration. Working to a single standard formalizes key concepts and principles, such as the procurement of  

information and the use of a Common Data Environment (CDE), Digital Asset Libraries, and the implementation of digital delivery software architectures to ensure the best outcomes throughout the project life cycle.  

In Australia, KBR utilizes the ISO 19650 standard on its major railway and defense projects, applying this cutting-edge digital capability to help rapidly deliver the infrastructure clients need.  

Embracing change  

As the pace of technological change accelerates, the demand for digital engineering capabilities, in addition to technical capabilities, continues to grow. More and more customers are seeking approaches that enable digital infrastructure solutions and efficient delivery of outcomes – something that the ISO 19650 certification allows KBR to deliver.
