On February 24, KBR marked its sixth annual Zero Harm Day to recognize and reflect on our employees’ safety and sustainability accomplishments. With COVID-19 restrictions still in place around the world, many of our teams celebrated virtually in their own unique ways to this year’s theme: I am Zero Harm. From fitness challenges and social media led photo contests to virtual panel discussions, our people put their commitments to Zero Harm 24/7 at work and in their homes front and center.

Australia team spotlights individual safety accomplishments

KBR employees in Australia team tuned into virtual events from around the country and shared morning tea with colleagues from other offices. The event allowed our people to reflect on their personal relationships with Zero Harm, their individual wellness, renew sustainability commitments and celebrate the achievements of those who lived out Zero Harm to the fullest over the past year.

Employees across our Government Solutions and Infrastructure Services businesses also nominated fellow colleagues who espouse KBR’s ten Sustainability Pillars in their daily lives. The winners, which included individuals from five of the seven Australian states, were presented their awards at the conclusion of the country-wide, kickoff event. Congratulations to all of our winners!

Zero Harm at the heart of the competition in Asia

KBR’s offices in Chennai and Gurgaon, India hosted quiz games, an employee Run-A-Thon and “I am Zero Harm” Painting Competition. In Beijing, South Korea and Moscow, our people virtually reflected on the achievements of the past year while looking ahead to the future. Employees offered personal anecdotes about safety and how we can deliver on our commitments to our ten Sustainability Pillars both at work and at home.

In Singapore, KBR’s Integrated Solutions team celebrated with a virtual town hall and socially distant, small group sessions in the office. These included safety awards, an HSE quiz and an open hour at the office gym. The team also enjoyed Zero Harm Day decorated cupcakes and carbon-reduced vegetable samosas.

By doing simple tasks such as regularly logging courage to care conversations and raising awareness to behaviors we otherwise might ignore, we have the potential to bring about tremendous change.”

‘Team of teams’ mindset on display across EMEA region

Many of our Europe-Middle East-Africa region offices held virtual events due to lockdown restrictions, but that did not affect participation across our office and project sites. KBR’s team in Leatherhead, UK organized a lineup of virtual events that included workshops, talks from external vendors such as Climate Partner and Wild Labs and a sustainability-themed Q&A panel featuring senior leadership across the region.

In the Middle East, celebrations from Iraq, Oman and Bahrain included sustainability demonstrations, Zero Harm commitment banner signings and an array of Zero Harm-themed confectionary creations by our Galley Services staff.

KBR’s LOGCAP program recognizes project safety records

Each Zero Harm Day represents an opportunity for project sites across our Logistics Civil Augmentation Program (LOGCAP) to formally recognize improvements in safety performance. Across our regions, our LOGCAP teams achieved significant safety records, including 1,429 consecutive days with zero recordable injuries, incidents and environmental releases in Turkey; 1,152 days in Poland; and 1,000 days Kuwait. KBR employees in Djibouti, Africa, took the opportunity to celebrate achieving 26 million hours without a lost-time safety incident.

U.S. offices deliver full slate of Zero Ham Day events

Local HSSE teams and employee resource groups came together to deliver a full day of virtual events for employees across the U.S. Panel discussions covered a range of themes related to safety and sustainability, including mental health, ergonomics, COVID-19 travel tips, cybersecurity and data privacy and more.

The Houston ASPIRE and IMPACT chapters even teamed up to host a live panel discussion on inclusion and diversity featuring KBR leadership who touched on their personal experiences with I&D and shared how they are contributing to a more inclusive environment at KBR.

Offices across the U.S. recognized the day in a variety of creative ways. For example, employees supporting NASA’s Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California developed a Zero Harm-themed crossword puzzle; employees who correctly completed the puzzle were eligible for a prize. Employees in the Huntsville, Alabama, office held a video contest and produced a Zero Harm promo video with drone footage featuring company facilities, including KBR’s wholly owned subsidiary, Kord.

The main event featured a gameshow-style jeopardy that put our U.S.-based Government Solutions and Sustainable Technology Solutions teams in a battle for Zero Harm Day supremacy, and in the end, our Government Solutions U.S. colleagues pulled out the victory. Following jeopardy, KBR senior leadership and special guest MyKey, KBR’s safety mascot, joined for closing remarks and to recognize employees for their Zero Harm contributions.

The newest addition to the KBR family – National Security Technologies Group, formerly known as Centauri – hosted their first Zero Harm Day. The group shared their commitments to Zero Harm via virtual teleconferences that took place across the country and many employees signed their first Zero Harm banner.

“KBR’s commitment to Zero Harm is deeply ingrained in our culture and by fully embracing that mindset – with the expansion of Zero Harm to include sustainability – we continued to deliver despite the challenges of the past year,” said Nick Anagnostou, Vice President, HSSE. “I want to personally thank our employees for their continued commitment to doing what is right for our planet, our people, our communities and our business.”
