Over the past two years, KBR has strengthened its commitment on our mission of better positioning ourselves in key markets, delivering more differentiated solutions, and better serving our growing customer portfolio. Two of the primary means of executing on that mission have been continuing to attract top talent and enhancing the business through strategic acquisitions.

The proof of the pudding is, as they say, in the eating, and one area of KBR’s business that stands as evidence of this mission’s success is the company’s nuclear workforce, particularly in the UK. What began as a 182-person team working on nuclear programs in 2020 today stands 855 people strong, a staggering 370% increase.

The rapid growth follows key acquisitions of Harmonic and Frazer-Nash Consultancy and a number of significant contract wins. The result is that KBR people are now working at the forefront of the UK’s nuclear space on some of the most exciting new-build, defense and decommissioning programs.

One of these is the game-changing PPP (Programme and Project Partners) contract at the Sellafield nuclear site in northwest England. More than 300 people comprise KBR’s Sellafield team, who are working collaboratively with partners to deliver a 20-year pipeline of major infrastructure projects that will enable the decommissioning and remediation of the site’s legacy facilities.

“We bring scale through our people — their knowledge and the breadth of their technical expertise,” said Matt Jacobs, Vice President of Projects and Programmes, KBR Government Solutions International. “As trusted partners to the nuclear sector, our people are working across multiple projects around the UK, delivering technical, digital and business transformation expertise for our valued customers.

KBR recently added Nuclear Waste Services, which is, like Sellafield Ltd., a subsidiary of the UK’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, as a client and is now providing expert project, program and portfolio management for a future geological disposal facility. The facility will support safe, sustainable waste disposal for legacy and future nuclear projects in the UK.

“What sets us apart is our approach,” Jacobs continued. “We work as an integrated team with our delivery partners, providing innovative, technology-led solutions that are solving our customers’ most complex problems and delivering the future success of the nuclear industry. It’s really exciting to see how our diverse teams are executing for our customers, and I can’t wait to see more of this in the future.”

In addition to growing the team through hires and acquisitions, KBR is investing in internship, apprenticeship and graduate programs in an effort to provide rewarding opportunities for those at the start of their careers and to grow a talent pipeline.

What’s more, KBR was named a “Great Place to Work-Certified™” company in 2022, an honor that underscores the company’s commitment to being a UK employer of choice for people who want to do work that matters.
