Energy Management Program for Fertilizer Plants

Publish date

Improving operational reliability and energy efficiency are two of the main objectives of optimizing ammonia plant operations, especially in brownfield fertilizer plants. Higher natural gas cost and lower ammonia price intensify the focus on minimizing the energy consumption. Environmental compliance obligations, mainly reduction of CO2 emissions, are additional incentives for striving to minimize energy usage during plant operations.

This Energy Management white paper briefly discusses the opportunities for improvement of the plant’s energy efficiency and CO2 emission during operations, the objectives of the relevant international standard ISO 50001 and outlines relevant KBR digital solutions, which enable the owners and operators of the brownfield fertilizer plants to improve operational reliability, reduce energy usage and CO2 emissions, and achieve overall best plant performance. It provides several case studies, stating the problems, describing the solutions provided by KBR and demonstrating the monetary value addition.

Lastly, the paper outlines a business plan for the Energy Management Program, states the solutions, provides an implementation roadmap and the estimated financial investment and returns, showing a quick payback and significant sustainable benefits.
