Senior KBR Technical Advisor Honored for his work in Flow Assurance

Publish date

Congratulations to Dr. Phaneendra Kondapi, Senior Technical Advisor for Granherne-KBR, who has been honored as Chair for the new Global Flow Assurance Technical Section of Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) International in January 2015. The Global Flow Assurance Technical Section provides a forum for discussion of matters relating to flow assurance, for establishing consensus on industry best practices, and for broad dissemination of these best practices. This newly established SPE technical section officially began operation in January 2014.

Prior to joining Granherne-KBR in our Houston office, Dr. Kondapi had 18 years’ experience on engineering and consulting projects around the globe. He is also a KBR Adjunct Professor of Subsea Engineering at the University of Houston where he helped develop the first and only Subsea Engineering program in the United States. He teaches Flow Assurance using an innovative Reverse Circular Teaching method he developed; and his class is one of the largest graduate courses at the University of Houston, with around 140 students this semester.

Dr. Kondapi recently gave an exclusive interview to Exploration & Production Magazine on the need for training the next generation of skilled engineers and the need for change in the industry-ready curriculum. He also wrote an article on Flow Assurance for the American Society of Mechanical Engineer’s special edition of Dynamic Systems and Controls Magazine on Subsea Engineering in March 2015. This article provides basic yet useful information on flow assurance activities and technologies that can be easily understood even by non-offshore engineers. Dr. Kondapi is also giving a SPE Global Webinar presentation on “An Insight to Current Flow Assurance Technologies” on Thursday, March 26, 2015 between 8:30-10:00am [see link below for registration information].

Dr. Kondapi is a member of Society of Petroleum Engineers, a founding member of the Upstream Engineering and Flow Assurance Forum of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and founding faculty advisor of the Subsea Engineering Society. He is also an active member of SPE Global Training Committee and the Offshore Technology Conference Program Committee, has organized many technical sessions, and has written and presented over 30 technical articles and presentations at various conferences and workshops. Dr. Kondapi received his Ph.D. from Tennessee Technological University and B.S. and M.S. from Andhra University, all in Chemical Engineering. He is a recipient of SPE Teaching Fellow Award from SPE International in 2013.
