KBR has marked a milestone in its partnership with Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd. (GNFC) with the successful commissioning of its second plant using KBR’s proprietary MAGNAC® concentrated nitric acid (CNA) technology, in Gujarat, India. The plant, designed for a throughput capacity of 150 metric tons per day of CNA, utilizes these sustainable technologies, which recycle process water without treatment, and are proven to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions.

This achievement showcases KBR’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge, environmentally responsible solutions while also contributing to the global drive for circular industrial practices.

A longstanding partner for KBR, all four of GNFC’s current CNA plants are operated using KBR’s nitric acid concentration processes, MAGNAC and NACSAC, producing concentrated nitric acid from fresh, weak nitric acid.

In 2019, KBR was awarded this technology contract by GNFC to provide the license, proprietary engineering design and equipment for the plant to produce 98.5% CNA, primarily for the Indian market.

"I am proud of our continued relationship with GNFC and the successful commissioning of this facility demonstrates the competitiveness and reliability of our environment friendly fertilizer and chemical technologies,” said Doug Kelly, KBR President, Technology. “KBR’s MAGNAC nitic acid concentration technology is preferred by our clients as it enables them to achieve their ESG objectives.”

Over the past 70 years, KBR has been a leader in inorganics process technology solutions for crystallization, evaporation, and concentration and purification of strong inorganic acids.
