KBR Provides Solutions for Major Projects in Australia

Publish date

KBR's Engineering and Construction Group, Asia Pacific, has been on an upward trajectory with three significant project wins recently announced in the Australia market positioning KBR in the midst of some of the largest and most significant infrastructure projects in Australia.

KBR won a two-year plus extension to an existing contract with South Australia Water Corporation (SA Water) for Project Management, Procurement, Engineering Management and Construction Management services for capital works projects in the Adelaide metropolitan area.

SA Water delivers water and wastewater services to almost 1.5 million people in South Australia. The program represents one of the largest government contracts for project and program management services in South Australia and is highly regarded within the Australian water industry for best practice program and project management.

Since 2011, KBR has worked collaboratively with SA Water to deliver more than 300 capital works projects for metropolitan Adelaide, including pipelines, sewers, pumping stations and water and wastewater treatment plants.

Also in Adelaide, KBR was awarded an engineering and design services contract to upgrade major civil infrastructure by Gateway South, a Joint Venture of Fulton Hogan and Laing O'Rourke, for the Darlington Upgrade Project. KBR will provide detailed design services for the improvement of 3.3 kilometers of high capacity urban road, resulting in a lowered motorway to bypass five major intersections, ten new bridges and infrastructure for a significant intelligent transport system. This project will help reduce congestion, improve safety, boost freight transport productivity and increase competitiveness for export industries. The project represents the latest stage in the $2.5 billion upgrade of Adelaide's North-South Road Corridor, one of the city's largest and most important transport routes.

We are pleased to be involved in this significant infrastructure project that is strategically important to South Australia's future growth plans," said Greg Conlon President Engineering and Construction, Asia Pacific. "This win builds on KBR's 30 plus years of strong record in the design of major Australian road projects and reflects our long-term commitment to business growth in the Asia Pacific region."

KBR was also awarded a contract for the procurement and management of design services for the Melbourne Metro Tunnel project in Victoria, Australia by construction company John Holland.

The work includes the excavation of two significant shafts in Melbourne's central business district in preparation for the construction of a new AU$10.9 billion metro tunnel and five underground stations. This highly complex and sensitive work is being undertaken in the heart of Australia's second largest city and involves excavating more than 11 stories below ground.

Other work in this project includes the extensive relocation and protection of utility services, including gas, power, sewage and telecommunications, as well as tram infrastructure works and building demolition to clear the path for the Melbourne Metro Tunnel. The first phase is expected to be performed over the next 24 months, with work on the tunnel shafts commencing next year.

Together, these large scale projects represent the breadth of services KBR can provide to our customers and clients across Australia and elsewhere in the world. With KBR's decades of experience, innovation, safety and cost-saving solutions, we deliver for our customers around the globe no matter the complexity."
