On March 9, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll unveiled a memorial in London honoring UK Armed Forces and civilians who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A number of KBR UK personnel were extremely honored to be invited to the prestigious ceremony and to have the opportunity reflect on the magnitude of what KBR employees have given over the years and the sacrifice that has been made by so many.KBR employees were honored to have the opportunity to meet with members of the royal family including Prince William, Princess Catherine, and Prince Harry.KBR's Katy Benedetto, Project Manager, attended the unveiling ceremony and service in recognition of her work and dedication to those based on operations in-theatre.

Katy has worked at KBR for ten years and over this time has been deployed to various sites across Iraq and Afghanistan. Since 2014 Katy has been dedicated to managing the NATO support projects in Hamid Karzai International Airport (HKIA) and Herat, Afghanistan providing aircraft services, facilities, infrastructure management, construction and catering. After the unveiling ceremony, Katy had the opportunity to speak with Princess Catherine and Prince William about her civilian role supporting the troops including catering operations and the flight line services that KBR carried out at a number of bases in Afghanistan.

"It was truly an honor and a privilege to represent KBR at the Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial unveiling," Katy said. "It was a beautiful sunny day, and the ceremony that included the drumhead service and the poignant 'last post' were very moving. It was really special to be a part of a service that not only honors the service of our military personnel, but also acknowledges the contributions of those civilians who have supported the mission in the Gulf region in recent years," she continued.

The memorial is especially meaningful to KBR employees who served in Iraq and Afghanistan providing services such as vehicle maintenance, food and laundry service, transportation and other behind the scenes military support. KBR Government Services supported the UK military with thousands of personnel for more than ten years during the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan and continues to provide operational and life support services to the UK Armed Forces today.Crown copyright 2017.The memorial was designed by sculptor Paul Day and is open to the public for viewing in the Victoria Embankment Gardens in London."
