Each year, supporters of KBR’s Charity Golf Tournament come together for a first class event to celebrate, network and raise funds for local charities.  This year’s event took place on September 16th at Kingwood Country Club and raised $563,000, the largest amount in the tournaments’ nine year history. Since 2007, the KBR Charity Golf tournament has raised more than $3,946,000 for charitable causes.

The tournament is organized by IMPACT, KBR’s young professional organization, and the entire event truly embodies the One KRB spirit. Planning for this year’s event began in February by the golf tournament committee, co-chaired by Bob Williams, Sales Coordinator for E&C Americas, and Sabih Shariff, Senior Technical Professional, Civil/Structural, and is overseen by a steering committee of KBR leaders from all over the company, headed by Carsten Bernstiel, Senior Vice President of Procurement. IMPACT provided over 40 volunteers on the day of the event, which included set-up beginning at 4 a.m., registration, hauling hundreds of boxes of supplies to and from the event, and clean-up which finally concluded around 8 p.m.  Graham Hill, Executive Vice President of Global Business Development and Strategy, and the executive sponsor of IMPACT said, “The IMPACT group is one that is very near to my heart.  It exists for the growth of KBR’s young professionals through leadership development, networking, and community service.  We empower these young people to go and do and they always exceed expectations. This event would not be possible without their tireless efforts and the organizing they did to prepare in the weeks and months leading up to the event.”

Over 430 golfers registered before the 9 a.m. shotgun start including a number of KBR executives and partner company representatives. Each of the 108 teams played 18 holes, spread out over three courses.

Throughout the courses, 17 hospitality tents hosted by sponsors were set up and served a wide variety of food to keep players sustained in the heat of the day. Judges drove around the courses to sample BBQ, Tex-Mex, Cajun and wide variety of other foods.  Winners were selected in each of our three categories: Best Theme, Best Food, and Best Overall. Eileen Akerson, Executive Vice President and General Counsel, was on the hospitality judging committee and was pleased to see her favorite tent, hosted by Edgen Murray, take first place in the Best Food category.

Following the tournament, an awards ceremony and check presentation took place over lunch at the clubhouse.

Stuart Bradie, KBR President and CEO, played in the tournament and gave remarks at the ceremony. “This tournament brings together KBR employees and partner companies for a day of fun while raising money to benefit the community in which we all work and live,” said Bradie. “We are proud to support these commendable charitable organizations and we are grateful to our generous sponsors and the young professional volunteers for making this event a huge success.”

Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to nine charities, all of which were recognized at the awards ceremony. The causes they each represent align with KBR’s charitable tenets of education and health:

  • The American Red Cross
  • Medlife
  • Houston Fire Department
  • Buffalo Bayou Partnership
  • Sunshine Kids Foundation
  • St. Jude Children’s Hospital
  • Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
  • Baytown Lee College Foundation
  • Impact a Hero
  • Weekley Family
  • YMCA

The KBR Charity Golf Tournament was a huge success thanks to the countless KBR employees that came together and demonstrated that we deliver is a motto that extends far beyond the projects we complete for clients around the world but is also part of what we do in our communities.
