KBR-Sponsored Team V3nture Row into the Record Books

Publish date

Team V3nture, a KBR-sponsored trio of British Army personnel has successfully completed the Talisker challenge, the world’s toughest row across the Atlantic Ocean. Their record-breaking effort makes them the first army trio to row any ocean. The team completed the challenge in 40 days, 17 hours and 40 minutes at sea, covering 3000 miles between the Canary Islands and Antigua.

KBR is proud to be the Platinum sponsor of Team V3nture, which is made up of three friends, Robert Cross, Charles Newman & Robert Treasure, who met in 2019 at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, UK.

The team decided to take on the challenge to raise both awareness and funds for their chosen charities, with a fundraising target of £200,000. 70% of the total funds raised will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support in honour of Robert Treasure’s father, who tragically lost his fight to cancer in June 2021. The team hopes to raise as much as possible to assist others affected by cancer and support their families. The remaining 30% will be allocated to three regimental army charities, in support of the units served by the rowers themselves.

Across the challenge they each completed close to 24 days of solid rowing, takin     g turns to row for 2 hours, and sleep for 1 hour on a repeated cycle, burning over 5000 calories per day. They were met with 20ft high waves and temperatures from as low as 10 degrees Celsius during the night up to well into the 30’s during the day.

KBR’s One Ocean initiative has also been in support of Team Venture, asking local schools to take part in a flag competition, with the winner’s flag being showcased during their exciting arrival in Antigua.
