KBR is a leader in human health and performance, and our experts — people like Dr. Bianca Cerqueira — are working every day to better understand how extreme conditions affect the human body and how we can mitigate the effects to maximize performance potential.

Dr. Cerqueira is a research scientist and medical image analyst whose current research focuses on the effects of occupational exposures to factors such as extreme high altitude. She provides expertise to a number of R&D programs for NASA and the U.S. Air Force, Army and Navy. She also provides neuroimaging guidance and analysis for the Defense Health Agency and is a member of the COVID-19 International Research Team (COV-IRT), a consortium dedicated to improving the world’s understanding of COVID-19 and identifying potential therapies.

It’s easy to see why she feels a sense of purpose in her work at KBR.

“Although my projects cover a broad range of topics, they all converge on the goal of improving human health and it’s satisfying to see the real-world impact my work can have,” she said. “The long-term outcomes could lead to novel therapeutics that could ameliorate the negative effects of flight or those that can prevent or treat cardiac problems that arise after a COVID infection.”

Dr. Cerqueira believes that KBR’s culture of collaboration and professional support and empowerment is central to her and others’ success.

“KBR empowers its people with the right tools and opportunities to come up with innovative solutions,” she said. “Because we are each valued, we can come together to deliver for our clients. KBR is a place where your ideas will be heard and seriously considered. And because of our team-driven culture, we’re all working together to reach the common goal of creating a better, safer and more sustainable world.”
