Spotlight on Disability – Hiring and Supporting of Deaf Employees in Saudi Arabia

02 Jun 2021

Time:
14:30 – 15:05 GMT

Did you know that over 5% of the world’s population, 430 million people, require support to address their hearing loss?

Did you know that it is estimated that by 2050 over 700 million people – or one in ten people will have hearing loss?

This is why it is important to raise awareness surrounding the challenges that individuals with hearing loss face and how we can support their integration into a new organization or group.

It is predicted that 35% of those with hearing loss are unemployed, with 41% retiring early due to the impact of their hearing loss and struggles with communication at work – highlighting that more needs to be done to recruit people with hearing loss into businesses. Equal Opportunity is one of the five themes of the UK Government’s new Social Value model and their main focus is getting more people with disabilities into work.

KBR is constantly evolving and looking at ways we can improve our offering to support all our employees. The Government Solutions EMEA project, OM&T, are leading the way in introducing a pathway for those affected by hearing loss. In May 2019 OM&T established a program aimed at integrating those with hearing loss into the office environment in Saudi Arabia.

On Wednesday 2 June, 14:30 – 15:05 GMT, join Aspire UK live on KBR’s Instagram, where we will be finding out more about the project, focusing on:

  • What initiated the idea?
  • How the project was set-up
  • Communication in the office environment
  • Learnings of the first cohort’s of the Programme

Suzanne Harding, Head of Social Value for Government Solutions EMEA will be hosting the session. Reem Seraj, OM&T’s Vision 2030 Realization Manager and founder of the program will share the journey.  We will also be engaging with those on the program, to understand their experiences and how they have benefitted.

The session will run for 20 minutes followed by a 15-minute Q&A. If there is something you would like to ask, please send your email over to FLONKBR - Aspire [email protected] so we can be sure there is time for your question to be answered.
