Project Details

  • Extensive planning was needed for one of the largest islands in Abu Dhabi. The development included the Grand Prix circuit, two marinas, seven hotels and the world’s biggest indoor theme park, Ferrari World (which has an iconic 200,000 m roof), a water world theme park, a residential community including villas, parks, mosques, schools, clubs and retail experiences responding to natural environment and local culture

  • Design and construction management were necessary to deliver this large-scale project on time to host the inaugural Etihad Abu Dhabi Formula 1™ Grand Prix in November 2009

  • Infrastructure planning included 24 km of roads, 32 km of waterfront, nine bridges, one underpass, 725 m road tunnel, 30 km of cycle and pedestrian paths, a complete range of utility services and road connections, cooling, irrigation, and telecommunications
  • For the state-of-the-art Formula 1™ Grand Prix, KBR provided all circuit installations, a track lighting system, a pit and supporting pit building and race control building, four grandstands and a viewing tower for the royal family

  • The largest construction site in the world at that time, the multinational workforce at its peak was 47,000, and KBR raised the standard of worker’s accommodations, including sporting, recreation and religious facilities

  • Quality throughout was essential, quality systems and training were used to ensure each aspect of quality was understood along with a stringent inspection program
