KBR President and CEO Stuart Bradie recently announced the winners of the 2018 KBR CEO Award for Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Excellence. The award, which recognizes individuals or groups who demonstrate exceptional HSSE leadership or improvement in overall HSSE performance, personifies the Zero Harm mindset exemplified by KBR employees across the globe.

Award nominees were selected by KBR Business Unit Presidents and then submitted to the CEO for consideration. Two of the twelve nominees were selected by Bradie.

William (Billy) McPheat was the first recipient of this year’s KBR CEO Award for HSSE Excellence. Billy has been employed with KBR since 2008 and it was during those early years that he was first recognized for his dedication to HSSE.

Stationed at Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan, Billy integrates HSSE into the daily supply, warehousing and procurement operations with ease and is meticulous in his planning, judgment and execution. He consistently leads by example and is not afraid to challenge poor safety behaviors. Since his appointment as manager, there has not been a single recordable incident. Throughout his career he has been dedicated to Zero Harm initiatives including volunteering to be a KBR Fire Marshall, planning and delivering Kandahar Airfield’s Zero Harm Day celebrations and completing several self-funded HSSE courses.

“Billy McPheat is well deserving of this recognition,” said Nick Anagnostou, KBR Vice President of HSSE. “Over the past 11 years, Billy has sought increased HSSE responsibilities throughout our Government Solutions business in the Middle East and his actions and safety leadership have made him a true champion of Zero Harm.”

The second recipient of this year’s award went to the Djibouti BOSS project staff located at three different sites across Africa. These sites include Camp Lemonnier and Chabelley Air Field in Djibouti, as well as Manda Bay, Kenya. Since beginning the Djibouti BOSS contract in 2013, KBR has achieved 19,161,094 hours without-a-lost time, OSHA-recordable incident. The Djibouti project team has been a leader in implementing KBR’s safety programs including intervention and instruction practices. In 2018 alone, the team completed 3,150,922 hours without an incident.

“The Djibouti team is outstanding in so many ways, but to achieve more than 19 million hours without a lost time incident is truly remarkable,” said Ella Studer, KBR Senior Vice President – Government Solutions. “The project is a blended family of over 24 different nationalities that looks out for each other and have the courage to care. When you visit Djibouti, you are instantly lifted with the team’s spirit of caring for their customers and each other.” She added, “The Djibouti team is much deserving of the CEO Award for HSSE Excellence.”

Congratulations to Billy and the entire project team at Camp Lemonnier for receiving the 2018 KBR CEO Award for HSSE Excellence and embodying KBR’s commitment to being Zero Harm.
