Qatar Expressway Project wins ENR's 2018 Global Best Project Award
As the Programme Management Consultant (PMC) for the Qatar Expressway Programme, KBR plays a key role in delivering one of the world's largest road infrastructure projects currently under construction.
The Expressway Programme network spans the entire State of Qatar, providing new north-south and east-west connections. The Lusail Expressway, one of over 70 projects being delivered as part of the program, was recently named Global Best Project in the Road/Highway category by Engineering News-Record (ENR). According to ENR, the Global Best Projects award identifies and honors the project teams behind outstanding design and construction efforts of the past year.
The Lusail Expressway establishes an efficient and express five kilometer link between Doha's central business hub and two of its most significant residential and commercial districts. The project provides four lanes in each direction and includes three complex multi-level interchanges comprised of an array of flyovers and tunnels. The project also features two additions to Doha's iconic skyline, the Arches, which stand more than 100 meters tall over one of the project's key interchanges.
Mr. Mohammed Masoud Al-Marri, Director of Infrastructure Affairs of the Public Works Authority, commented, "Lusail Expressway is one of Ashghal's Expressway Programme key projects, that have received much recognition for its outstanding engineering accomplishments, and we are honoured to add ENR's Global Industry Award to its list of distinctions."
Driven by Qatar National Vision 2030 and catering to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Qatar Expressway Programme will deliver a world-class new and upgraded road infrastructure network designed to improve highway capacity, connectivity and safety to meet current and future demands of population and economic growth.
Since 2010, KBR has worked as the PMC on behalf of the client, Ashghal (the Public Works Authority of Qatar). At peak, KBR's team consisted of approximately 300 international specialists who provide engineering, commercial, environmental, health and safety and other administrative services.
