KBR sponsors Project Dignity Training in Singapore

Earlier this year, KBR’s Singapore office became actively engaged with a local social enterprise called Project Dignity, whose mission is “to build and return dignity to the disadvantaged and disabled through vocation with a passion.”

KBR, in collaboration with client Siccar Point Energy (SPE), has sponsored two differently abled individuals and spent numerous hours volunteering with the organization.

Beneficiaries of the program are empowered with skills, employment and most of all, an opportunity to be a productive member of society.

KBR employee Irena Yap, Lead IT customer support analyst, was encouraged to enroll her son Gabby, 25, who is autistic. Gabby has been unable to find employment since graduating seven years ago, was given the opportunity to train with Project Dignity, which was a fantastic opportunity for him.

Gabby learned many new skills over the 22 days, including how to cook, be a cashier, tie an apron, and pass a basic hygiene certification.

Irena commented, “The team at Dignity Kitchen were so loving and kind. I can’t believe that Gabby has been able to do so much.  The 22 days seemed like a year to us. It’s been filled with a lot of anxiety, yet great joy and happiness to see him adjusting and adapting to new routines, environments and people. I am grateful to the KBR Singapore team for walking this journey with us.”

KBR colleagues supported this cause wholeheartedly by volunteering to pack, distribute meals and learn more about the operations of Project Dignity.  They have ambitions to set up similar projects in the UK and USA as well.

 

Rebuilding Together: KBR Helps Community Homeowners

In April, more than 30 KBR volunteers rolled up their sleeves to support Rebuilding Together, an organization that provides free home repairs to low-income families in Howard County, Maryland. As a part of our commitment to community engagement, KBR employees have been participating with the local Maryland Howard County Rebuilding Together program for 12 years. The organization is committed to improving the lives of the elderly, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and families with children who have worked hard but can no longer afford to keep up with home repairs.

Every year, KBR chooses a homeowner in need and aligns volunteers to perform a variety of tasks like making improvements to kitchens, baths, decks, ceilings and general repairs and clean-up. This year, KBR took on and completed work on three homes in one day, something that has never been accomplished in the history of this event! 

The KBR team is currently planning another event in the Virginia area in August and is looking to expand to other locations where KBR employees and Rebuilding Together affiliates are in close proximity.

 

Virtual Food Drive Delivers Over 10,000 Meals

KBR’s team in North Charleston, North Carolina hosted a virtual food drive that provided over 12,250 meals this summer. The virtual food drive provided work-from-home employees and in-office employees a chance to give back without having to bring in food items to the office.

The virtual food drive benefitted Feeding America and raised a total of $1,225 in just over two weeks, surpassing their original $1,000 goal. More than 38 million people in America face hunger which has only increased since the start of summer and the growing inflation, so the team created this fundraiser to help provide as many meals as possible to their neighbors in need. 

 

KBR U.S. Hosted Bingo Benefiting the Robb School Memorial Fund

On June 14th, KBR employees across the U.S. took part in three games of virtual bingo to raise money for those affected by the tragedy at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Over 50 KBR employees, their friends and family joined to play and raise money for this worthy cause. The fundraiser was a success with over $5,300 raised during the event which was given directly to the Robb School Memorial Fund.

The event was hosted by Ella Studer, Senior Vice President, U.S. Government Solutions, and Ulysses Goree, Senior Vice President, Integrated Solutions Americas.

“It’s great to have a little fun to raise money for this very deserving charity,” said Studer. “We felt it was important to do something to support the Uvalde community and it was an honor to give back through this event.”
