KBR Takes Part in World's Largest Oil & Gas Conference

Publish date

The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, Texas is one of the premier oil and gas events and KBR was once again an active participant throughout the four day show. From KBR's booth to speeches and panel discussions, KBR employees engaged with customers, clients and other attendees to show thought leadership on a variety of issues related to the offshore energy market.

The theme at KBR's booth this year was "Driving Down Offshore Costs" which showcased KBR's SmartSPEND process for capital efficiency and cost effective structural integrity management among other cost saving initiatives. The KBR team also presented interactive augmented reality and virtual reality technology and the solutions it offers clients in real world scenarios – all of which was developed in-house by KBR engineers based in Australia.

OTC's technical program includes 350+ peer-selected technical presentations and KBR employees presented on a variety of topics including 'Subsea Field Development and Tiebacks' and 'Floating System and Integrity Management Standards'.  A team from Granherne, a KBR company, won the SNAME 2018 OTC Best Paper Award Third Place for the paper 'A Universal Field Development Approach for Advancing Stalled GOM Deepwater Projects'. SNAME is one of the largest sponsoring organizations of OTC in Houston and every year they honor the top three papers written by SNAME members that are presented at OTC. This award recognizes KBR's position as a leader in field development planning of deepwater projects.

Richard D' Souza, Sandeep Khurana and Shiladitya Basu display an award won for their paper presented at OTC.

Greg Conlon, KBR Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer, led the company's efforts at the conference. "OTC is a global meeting place for customers and suppliers and it's a great opportunity to visit with industry leaders from around the world," he said. "The KBR team showcased the new cost and digital paradigm that is driving the rejuvenation of the offshore industry," Conlon continued.

The Offshore Technology Conference, held annually in Houston, was founded in 1969 by 12 engineering and scientific organizations as a response to the growing technological needs of the global ocean extraction and environmental protection industries. This year the conference celebrated its 50th anniversary. OTC brings together more than 70,000 industry leaders and buyers from more than 100 countries.
