As a corporate citizen, KBR takes great pride in supporting charitable organizations and initiatives around the world. Through volunteering and corporate giving, we believe it is our duty to give back to organizations that directly support our primary themes of philanthropic focus – health, education, safety and the environment. Last month, KBR took center stage in three community events that showcase these ideals.

KBR Hosts 13th Annual Charity Golf Tournament

Year after year, young professionals in KBR’s IMPACT Houston chapter successfully plan the KBR Charity Golf Tournament and this year was once again a tremendous success. The 13th annual tournament raised more than $535,000 for six charities that are making a real impact in the communities in which KBR employees live and work. This year’s charitable recipients were St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Houston Fire Department, Buffalo Bayou Partnership, Impact a Hero, the Houston Texans Foundation and Galveston Bay Foundation.

The tournament took place at Kingwood Country Club and hosted more than 440 golfers and was supported by more than 40 volunteers. Throughout the day, players had the opportunity to visit hospitality tents provided by our tournament sponsors who offered food and beverages on the course. At the conclusion of the tournament, all players, sponsors and volunteers gathered for the silent auction and award ceremony emceed by former NFL player and Houston Texans Community Ambassador Chester Pitts.

“Each year the KBR Charity Golf Tournament brings members of the KBR family from all over the world in support of a great cause,” said Mark Sopp, KBR Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. “KBR is proud to support these outstanding charitable organizations and we commend them for their efforts in our communities. A special thank you to our volunteers and sponsors for another successful tournament and making the day possible.”

Since its inception in 2007, the KBR Charity Golf Tournament has raised more than $6 million for local and national nonprofits. What started twelve years ago as a tournament with fewer than 50 teams has doubled to more than 400 total golfers.

KBR Serves as Co-Lead Sponsor for Army-Ten Miler

For the 14th consecutive year, KBR served as a co-lead sponsor for the 35th Army Ten-Miler (ATM) race in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, October 13th. More than 35,000 runners made up of military, civilians, wheel chair athletes and wounded warriors from all corners of the world participated in the world’s third largest ten-mile road race. At the race, KBR’s sponsorship provided free shuttle service, water, pre-packaged meal boxes, hospitality tents and a reunion area where family and friends connect with runners. The sponsorship also included the famous Hooah Tent Zone where attendees interacted with soldiers while enjoying Wisconsin bratwursts and taking pictures in the photo booth.

All race proceeds support the U.S. Army’s Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) program which offers soldiers and their families across the globe with services and programs that support readiness and resilience for military members and their families.

Ella Studer, Sr. Vice President, Government Solutions – U.S., said, “KBR is proud to continue to back the U.S. Army, military families and veterans through our support of the Army Ten-Miler. Once again, our people had a tremendous showing at the race and I am extremely grateful for their participation as well as our volunteer efforts in support this cause.”

KBR Kids Day Brings Community Together

In Houston, KBR with the support of Buffalo Bayou Partnership (BPP), hosted the 12th annual KBR Kids Day on Saturday, October 12th. Thousands of children and their families across Houston gathered at Guadalupe Plaza Park for free family fun and hands-on nature activities, including face painting, rock climbing, balloon artists, a birds of prey show and Halloween Costume Parade. More than 20 partners, entertainment and performers were also in attendance.

KBR has partnered with BBP over the years which is dedicated to improving local recreation opportunities, flood management and ecosystem restoration for Houston’s historic waterway.

“KBR Kids Day is always a tremendous event because we get to celebrate and also give back to the Houston community,” said Philip Ivy, KBR Vice President, Global Marketing and Communications. “Each year Buffalo Bayou Partnership goes above and beyond to put on this fantastic event and we couldn’t be more thankful for the work they do to support our local environment and for being such great partners through the years.”

Through corporate giving and employee-driven volunteer initiatives, our people are at the heart of KBR’s philanthropic spirit is our people and we commend their efforts this past month.
