KBR Dining Facilities Win Highest Awards from U.S. Navy

KBR dining facilities at Sheik Isa Air Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain and at Camp Lemonnier in the Republic of Djibouti, were recently presented the highest honor for excellent food service operations. Both dining facilities were awarded 5-Star accreditations, the premier level of distinction from the U.S. Navy.
Both awards were given by the U.S. Navy Command - Region 6 based in Naples, Italy which covers Europe, Southwest Asia and Africa. There are over 300 Navy galleys worldwide including afloat and ashore and the 5-Star Award is only given to the top one percent of those facilities each year.

The 5-Star Accreditation Award for food service excellence is based on strict criteria regarding the overall quality of food service management from food preparation, storage, customer service, record-keeping, inventory practices, financial accountability, training, sanitation, facility structure, and promotion of healthy eating programs.
This is the first 5-Star Award for both Isa and Camp Lemonnier, although both have received 3-Star and 4-Star recognition in the past. The Isa AB Dining Facility was especially delighted to receive the award which took into account their unique challenges of managing the main galley location as well as other locations that deliver food to Military personnel that cannot leave posts to eat in the galley.


Roger Singleton, Program General Manager, and Herman Smith, Food Services Manager accepted the award on behalf of the KBR team at Paradisa Café Galley at Isa Air Base. KBR's Randy Webb and Don Haar received the award for the Dorie Miller Galley at Camp Lemonnier.
   
LT David C. Nelson, SC, Food Service Officer of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command stated that to achieve the five-star accreditation the facility needs to receive at least a 95 percent on a point system. Camp Lemonnier received 1218 points and Isa Air Base received 1203 points of a potential of 1261 points, giving both galleys an incredibly high 95+ percent overall score.


"Receiving this award is a clear demonstration that our standards of service are outstanding and we do an remarkable job day in and day out for all who come to dine at the galleys we serve," remarked KBR's Ella Studer, Vice President Operations, Government Services-Americas. "It is an honor for us to receive this award and a big part is due to the hard work and dedication of our food services teams because they are the first faces that our customers see," she continued.


As a result of the 5-Star accreditation, both galleys have automatically been nominated for the prestigious 2017 Captain Edward F. Ney Memorial Award in the Large Ashore General Mess category. This award for food service excellence is given annually to the best Navy galley in the world and is determined by a one-day surprise inspection. This added recognition means that two of KBR's teams will be vying for the coveted award.


"To have two KBR teams competing against each other for such a global award is one more example of the commitment to service and excellence that permeates the entire Government Services Americas organization," said Byron Bright, President Government Services-Americas. "Congratulations to both KBR teams on this award and we wish you the best of luck as you compete for the Ney Award," he said.
Results for the Ney Award will be announced in the first quarter of 2017.
