Blog post:

From a proud history, KBR is helping Australia navigate a Bright@r future.

by: Greg Conlon, Chief Digital & Development Officer

A key vector in KBR’s global strategy is the role of gas as a fuel for the future. It was refreshing to attend APPEA this week and hear that Australia recognises the critical role gas will play as the transition fuel that will deliver a sustainable energy future for the Australian economy.

KBR has +20 year heritage of developing gas assets in the North West shelf and at Ichthys in Darwin. I was excited to attend APPEA to describe how we are working on future-proofing the next generation of gas projects for Browse, Crux and Gorgon that will maintain Australian’s leadership position in LNG export for the next 3 decades. APPEA was very focused on establishing a clear vision to create a BRIGHT@R future for the Australian energy industry. KBR is helping drive a new generation of digitalisation and human performance readiness into our Australian projects.

KBR is leveraging its involvement in the satellite technology, CLOUD computing, SMART new sensors and cyber hardware that are modernising the US military and driving commercial & military space to present emerging solutions to major Australian operators.

We are focused on four digital solutions for customers:

  • Digital project delivery
  • Remote operations
  • Smart maintenance
  • Intelligent facilities management

All these solutions are being implemented on projects for APPEA members today!

As digitalisation reinvents how KBR will build, operate and maintain assets the role of the human is also changing. We see learnings from a 40 year Astronaut health and hygiene program having massive potential to unlock human performance on high impact operator roles for our customers’ missions and projects around the globe. I believe energy customers are going to follow the same trend. There will less personnel on plants in the future and the performance demands on operators of the future will be more acute.
