Technologies for License

KBR offers proprietary technologies for license to the chemical industry including phenol, n-paraffins, NExOCTANE™, and aniline. Our portfolio includes innovative process technologies that are either KBR proprietary, third-party owned, or co-developed with others and available for license through KBR.

Phenol

KBR built the first commercial cumene-to-phenol plant in 1952 and has licensed and/or engineered more phenol plants than any other company. KBR's extensive experience is backed by a team with broad expertise in phenol technology, which provides licensor support services to clients from technology licensing, process design, engineering, and construction through start-up and continued technical services to optimize production.

Aniline

DuPont's technology for the production of aniline is licensed exclusively by KBR. The technology offers low cost production of high quality aniline product, backed by over 60 years of DuPont experience. The liquid phase hydrogenation of MNB is the preferred technology for today’s world scale aniline plants with emphasis on safety, reliability, and cost of production.

NExOCTANE™

Iso-octane from iso-butylene, through dimerization, is the concept behind Neste Oil's NExOCTANE™ technology, which is licensed exclusively through KBR. This technology is applicable to a wide range of mixed C4 feedstocks, and is ideal for revamps of existing MTBE/ETBE units or for grassroots installations.

n-Paraffins

ExxonMobil Chemical's normal paraffins technology is licensed exclusively by KBR. The technology offers LAB producers a robust process for extraction of n-paraffins from kerosene, with a high tolerance to feed impurities, flexibility, and lower capital cost. This technology produces a high quality product to meet most specifications, with over 40 years of operating experience behind it.
