For more than 50 years, KBR has played an integral role in the petroleum refining marketplace in which we have designed or constructed more than 1,000 refining units across the globe. Refiners have come to rely on our ability to deliver unmatched solutions that are low in capital cost and high on quality and reliability. KBR provides full engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning/start-up (EPC-CS) services for a world of clients. We have the downstream technology and expertise to increase long-term reliability while reducing operating costs. In addition to bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise in critical refining processes like residuum upgrading, fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) and hydroprocessing to projects — we create technologies that increase their effectiveness.
Over the past decade, we have licensed nearly 2 million barrels per day of new and revamped FCC (Fluid Catalytic Cracking) capacity — including 9 grassroots units and over 100 revamps. KBR’s ROSE (Residuum Oil Supercritical Extraction) technology, with more than 50 units installed worldwide, is a deasphalting process that helps refiners and heavy oil upgraders achieve higher yields of high quality, low sulfur and low metals DAO (de-asphalted oil) from difficult feedstocks. ROSE uses supercritical solvent extraction which reduces energy usage by more than 50% over conventional solvent deasphalting. Through our partnership with Shell Global Solutions, KBR offers a full suite of proven hydroprocessing technologies applied in more than 50 refineries around the world. We license these technologies for processing a wide range of feedstocks: from naphtha to heavy feeds, which produce low sulfur, clean-burning transportation fuels.
Our emphasis on “bottom-of-the-barrel” solutions, coupled with our extensive experience in refining processes, continues our long-standing commitment to deliver leading-edge, cost-effective solutions for diverse refining needs in every market.
