Environmental Performance

KBR has been recognized around the globe for its commitment to the environment and a sustainable future. While we continue to seek ways to prevent pollution, extend the useful life of non-renewable energy sources and improve the quality of life for our neighbors, our past efforts are being used as examples for others in the industry. Projects recognized for environmental stewardship and sustainability include:

  • The Aspire Defence Capital Works (U.K.) The ADCW, a joint venture between KBR and Carillion, involved the construction of 365 buildings at the garrisons at Aldershot and Salisbury Plain that met BRE Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) "Excellent" standards and the refurbishment of 140 more buildings to BREEAM "Very Good" standards. Ninety-seven percent of project demolition waste was recycled and re-used, while individual micro-CHP systems installed in the newly constructed buildings will save more than 1000 tons of carbon dioxide yearly. The ADCW won several awards for environmental excellence, including the UK Sustainable Development of the Year in 2007.
  • The Quang Ngai Natural Disaster Mitigation Project, completed in conjunction with AusAID, was the winner of the Environment category of the Australian Engineering Excellence Awards (Queensland Division) in 2007. The project was lauded for its sound environmental practices, the sustainable use of natural resources, its environmental impact on the quality of life of surrounding communities and was described as a "World Best Practice".
